So, you’re feeling nervous about your interview? Great!

Interview tips

So… you’re feeling nervous about your interview? Perfect.A few nerves usually mean you care - and that’s a good thing. The goal isn’t to “not be nervous”… it’s to be prepared enough that you can still show up as your best self. Here are our Top 5 Do’s and Don’ts to help you feel confident and in control:
Top 5 Do’s ✅
1) Do come prepared Research the company and the industry. What do they do, who do they serve, and who are their competitors?2) Do dress professionally Unless you’ve been told otherwise, go smart. First impressions still matter.3) Do have questions ready A good interview is a two-way conversation. Thoughtful questions show genuine interest and commercial awareness.4) Do take a breath before answering You don’t need rapid-fire answers. It’s absolutely fine to pause, think, and respond clearly.5) Do be personable A bit of friendly small talk goes a long way. Skills get you shortlisted - likeability helps you get hired.
Top 5 Don’ts ❌
1) Don’t be late Plan your journey properly, allow buffer time, and if it’s in-person, consider a quick practice run.2) Don’t forget the basics Good manners, eye contact, a confident greeting, and positive body language make a bigger impact than people realise.3) Don’t bad-mouth previous employers or colleagues Even if you’ve had a tough experience, keep it professional and focused on what you learned.4) Don’t bluff If you don’t know the answer, say so - then explain how you’d find out or how you’d approach it. Honesty beats guesswork.5) Don’t undersell yourself Make sure your strengths are clear. What do you do well, and why should they hire you over someone else? You’ve got this. Prepare well, show up as yourself, and treat it like a conversation - not an interrogation. Good luck!

MFK Recruitment partners with some of the UK’s most reputable brands - helping great people land roles they genuinely want, not just the next available option.
How do we help you?
We take the time to understand what you’re looking for, what motivates you, and what really matters in your next move. We genuinely love what we do - and we’ll work tirelessly to help you take the next step in your career. Check out what Luke thinks of us... I have been in contact and worked with many recruiters over the years, and it's exceptionally rare that you come across someone as good as Matthew. I had the pleasure of being represented by Matthew recently during my application for a remote start-up role. During this time, I was always impressed by his unwavering honesty, clear communication and friendliness. In the end I didn't end up choosing this particular role due to other factors, but Matthew never acted pushy or tried to influence my decision. From my very first conversation with him it was clear that he was committed to supporting me in finding the right role, even if that role didn't necessarily come through MFK Recruitment. Whenever I am next looking for a role, I will absolutely be in contact with MFK Recruitment as I can genuinely say I have never had such a pleasant recruitment experience. Recruiter

I launched MFK Recruitment in 2019 after spotting a gap in the market - recruitment that was becoming too focused on targets and not focused enough on people. From day one, the mission has been simple: do recruitment properly. Be honest, consultative, responsive, and genuinely care about the outcome for both clients and candidates. That people-first approach has shaped everything we do - and it’s why we’re proud to say that many of our clients have worked with us since launch, and many of the candidates we placed years ago are still thriving in the roles we recruited them into.At MFK, we believe recruitment should feel like a partnership, not a transaction. We’re here to make hiring (and job moves) straightforward, professional, and human - and to help great people find the right businesses where they can grow and succeed long-term.When I’m not working, I’m all about family time with my wife Kim and our son Freddie - whether that’s days out, relaxing at home, or just making the most of the little moments.I’m also a big football fan… and yes, I support Aston Villa (don’t judge me!). You’ll usually find me watching the match, talking football with anyone who’ll listen, and recharging, ready to go again.
