Fire Engineer - Building Regulations & Cladding Safety

Overview

We’re looking for a Fire Engineer to support a growing pipeline of work across Building Regulations compliance, fire strategy/design, and external wall / cladding safety. You’ll work across new build and existing buildings, producing robust, evidence-led outputs for clients, design teams, and regulators.

Fire Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Produce fire strategies for a range of building types, aligned to Building Regulations (Approved Document B) and relevant guidance/standards.
  • Provide fire engineering input across project stages (concept through construction and handover).
  • Support external wall / cladding safety work, including PAS 9980-style FRAEW outputs (where applicable).
  • Contribute to regulatory engagement, including Building Control, AHJs, and project stakeholders.
  • Review architectural details, materials, and specifications for fire performance, compartmentation, means of escape, smoke control, and fire-fighting access.
  • Undertake technical reviews of drawings, reports, and calculations; identify risk and propose compliant solutions.
  • Attend design meetings and provide clear, practical advice to multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Maintain high-quality reporting, record keeping, and document control.

Essential Experience & Skills for the Fire Engineer

  • Demonstrable experience delivering fire engineering work against Building Regulations / ADB.
  • Experience supporting cladding/external wall fire safety (e.g., FRAEW / PAS 9980 methodology, EWS-type assessments, remediation support).
  • Strong report writing skills with the ability to communicate technical risk to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of typical fire engineering scope: means of escape, smoke control, compartmentation, structural fire protection, and active systems interfaces.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities.

Fire Engineer Professional Certification / Membership (Required)

  • IFE membership (e.g., MIFireE/FIFireE)
  • Equivalent recognised professional competence/registration relevant to UK fire engineering

Nice to Have

  • Experience with higher-risk buildings and Building Safety Regulator-facing work.
  • Experience supporting remediation schemes and stakeholder coordination.
  • Familiarity with common UK standards and guidance (e.g., BS 9991 / BS 9999, smoke control guidance), and façade system considerations.
  • Site experience/inspections relating to fire stopping, compartmentation, and as-built compliance.

What You’ll Get

  • £90,000 - £100,000
  • Hybrid
  • Pension
