Hybrid working: 3 days in the new Salford office, 2 days from home

This is not a standard administration role.
The Scientific Programme Administrator will play an important support role within international genomics quality assurance. You will help support the delivery of External Quality Assessment schemes that enable diagnostic laboratories across the world to produce accurate, reliable and clinically appropriate genetic test results.
The organisation’s work supports clinical governance nationally and internationally, helping reduce the risk of patient harm and raising standards in diagnostic genomics.

The successful Scientific Programme Administrator will work on a hybrid basis, spending three days per week in the new Salford office and two days working from home.
The opportunity
As Scientific Programme Administrator, you will support the delivery of specialist External Quality Assessment schemes in clinical genomics.
You will work closely with Scientific Programme Managers, Principal Scientific Programme Managers, laboratory colleagues, operational teams and external stakeholders. You will be involved in scientific administration, sample preparation, laboratory support, quality management activity, data handling, reporting support and logistics.

Key responsibilities
You will be involved in:
• Supporting the delivery of high-quality ISO 17043 accredited genomics-based EQA services
• Assisting with the preparation and manufacture of EQA samples
• Booking samples into tracking databases and updating laboratory records
• Aliquoting, labelling and packing samples ready for shipment
• Supporting nucleic acid extraction, quantification, PCR and qPCR activity after appropriate training
• Supporting stock control, laboratory consumables, reagents and housekeeping activities
• Assisting with validation of laboratory equipment
• Helping prepare website content and systems for the assessment of results
• Assisting with scientific reports, including statistics, graphs, tables and formatting
• Supporting SOP writing, software testing and data gathering for scientific publications
• Supporting ISO 17043 accreditation and quality management activity, including audits, supplier records and documentation
About you
You are likely to come from a background in biological sciences, biomedical science, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, laboratory support or a closely related scientific environment.
For this Scientific Programme Administrator position, you will need:
• HNC, HND, diploma or equivalent experience in a scientific subject
• Basic laboratory skills, including pipetting
• An interest in molecular biology, genetics, genomics or diagnostic testing
• Good computer literacy and keyboard skills
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, collaborators and customers
• The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider scientific team
• A flexible, proactive and self-motivated approach
• The ability to work accurately and remain organised under pressure
Experience in molecular biology techniques, previous research experience or NHS laboratory experience would be beneficial. An honours degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genomic Sciences or a related subject would also be advantageous.
